I would respectfully urge that the Government take it into consideration whether it would not be more satisfactory and just to all parties to throw the Scholarship open to as wide a competition as possible.

In favour of the Diocesan Home School it seems to have as great claims to admission to compete for this prize as any Government School. It has always done well in the yearly Examinations by the Government Inspector, and passed the same grant-in-aid Examination as St. Joseph's College, and equally well.

The results of the Cambridge Local Examination of last year were reflected creditably on this school, though in an indirect way, two boys from the school who obtained passes having been trained at the Diocesan Home School.

There are two boys in this school undergoing preparation in the hope of being accepted as Candidates for the next Government Scholarship. Uncertainty whether they will be admitted is sure to act discouragingly on their minds and those of their masters, and it would be a great boon if this uncertainty could be at once removed.

If, however, His Excellency the Acting Governor does not feel himself in a position to decide this at once, I beg on behalf of our Committee that he will kindly refer the matter to the Secretary of State for decision at the earliest convenient or possible date.

I have,

Your obedient Servant,
